Work Well
Know Your Numbers Week!
Know Your Numbers! Raises awareness of high blood pressure, encouraging all UK adults to get a blood pressure check. Situated in the Students’ Union, the WellPoint Kiosk will complete a free blood pressure reading alongside a full health check, why not check it out?
What should your blood pressure be?
Ideally, we should all have a blood pressure reading between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg. Most people in the UK have blood pressures higher than the ideal, but below the usual cut-off for diagnosing high blood pressure – somewhere between 120/80mmHg and 140/90mmHg. If you’re in this range, you could develop high blood pressure in the future.
How to lower your blood pressure
Healthy Living: getting active, maintaining a healthy weight, and stopping smoking are some of the best things that can help lower your blood pressure. Physical wellbeing should be a priority for everyone, and as a university, we encourage this by offering various activities such as weekly yoga sessions, gym memberships and social sports – check this out! Need some motivation? We also offer walking/running virtual group so you can get active whilst working towards a shared target.
Healthy Eating: Cutting down on salt and saturated fats, whilst getting your five-a-day in will help also. Visit our Eat Well section on HomeHub to find healthy recipes, in addition to highlighting ways to eat better and save money using Linc-On benefits!
